The Marvelous Christmas Tree

about

A song I wrote last Christmas, inspired by a crazy build-your-own-Christmas-tree-project involving a broom stick, wire hangers and all sorts of random objects. There’s also a video on Youtube: youtu.be/9Xvj0ElKpz8

lyrics

The Marvelous Christmas Tree

Outside the river comes to rest, or not quite yet, half-frozen,
half-done, half-assed, just like me

Inside, Spiderman, bringer of candy canes, right next to the unicorn, hanging by a thread, just like me

DIY, broomstick, wire hangers, duct type and dollar store crap
Fairy lights galore
A little bit of everything, just like me

DIY everything, DIY everything
And always a little bit against the rules

All the ugly sweaters I could have worn
All the sugar
All the songs
And candles dying late at night
This year all battery, no flame
All battery, no flame, just like me

No gifts underneath the marvelous Christmas tree
In the end what do we need?
Everything is already there and has always been

Strangely beautiful, just like me
The marvelous Christmas tree
